I’m supposed to do my YTT in October in India. Everything was already purchased prior to the virus emerging, but the closer the time comes the more I question whether or not this is something I should keep on the books for this year. I never imagined having to do a teacher training wearing a mask. Taking a YTT has been a big goal of mine since I found yoga. Originally I just wanted to go for the spiritual and personal growth that it offers and to deepen my practice. Should I just put my goal on hold?
Hope you are hanging in there,
Should I Stay Or Should I Go?
Dear Should I Stay Or Should I Go,
You should absolutely put your goal on hold in regards to attending an in-person YTT. Especially one that requires you to travel to the other side of the world. While I feel like this reasoning is clear, I will spell it out for you:
1)We are in the middle of a pandemic with no clear end in sight.
2)It would be unethical to put others at risk for the sake of receiving a certificate to teach yoga.
3)There are multiple online YTT programs (200, 300, and 500hr) led by excellent teachers and studios available.
The entire world is in flux right now. Everyone is making hard choices to protect themselves and others. This is not one of those hard choices. Thankfully, livestream yoga has never been more alive and well than the present, and many master teachers are jumping on the online-only YTT bandwagon. Not only is this phenomenal news for YTT hopefuls such as yourself, but it broadens horizons for master teachers and yoga studios to adapt and expand their reach by creating more affordable, in-depth training that can be led and learned from the convenience of one’s own home.
Teaching yoga can only happen when one starts living yoga. Cancel your plans, enlist in an online-only YTT, roll out your mat--it can be that clear and simple, if you want it to be.
